Part Two

[9:45 AM] -Northern Ireland-

(Soldier) Welcome to Ireland. My name’s Weston, and I’ll be your contact on the outside. I’ll also be debriefing you on our way to the drop-off point. Now that your vehicle has been taken care of, shall we be going?

(DJ) I’m DJ, and this is my partner Jake. We’re both ready to go whenever you are, Weston.

(Jake) *nods in agreement*

(Weston) Excellent. Step into that Humvee over there, and we’ll be on our way. So, how long have you been in the Martial Academy?

(DJ) *walks toward humvee* I’ve been in the Academy for nearly six years now. My parents were both killed in a terrorist attack, and I was sent to the Academy instead of a foster care service.

(Jake) *follows DJ and Weston* I’ve been in for five years. I got taken away from my parents because they got into some sort of legal trouble, I guess. Then they sent me to the Academy for ‘disciplinary action’. But I decided to stay there just to prove myself to everyone.

(Weston) *climbs into vehicle and starts driving toward drop point* I’m very sorry to hear that, both of you. But I’m glad to see that you’ve both made the best of your situations. Well then, I guess I ought to be letting you two know what’s up here. I’m sure you both know by now that you’re working for the ATAWE, or ‘Anti-Terrorist Alliance of Western Europe’. This is the Irish subdivision here. We’ve tracked down a key terrorist cell to a ten mile radius, but they put up an anti-radar shield so we can’t find the exact location. And we can’t infiltrate the forest without them seeing us on the way in. Last time we tried, we lost four men in an ambush. That’s why you’re here. Trained operatives, especially ones as young as you, should have an easier time of locating the bunker without being detected. Once you get there, you’ll need to activate your homing beacon given to you earlier. That way we’ll know where to send backup in. If you can, watch out for guards while the troop is making its way toward you. And whatever you do, don’t go in the bunker without backup! It is believed that they’ve been hiding highly regarded assassins there the last few weeks, and they wouldn’t hesitate to hurt you if they got the chance.

(Jake) Yeah, yeah…point taken. We’re not trained for nothing, you know.

(DJ) Don’t worry about him, Weston. I’ll make sure we’re safe.

(Weston) You’d better…you know how much trouble I’d get in if you two got seriously hurt or killed on mission?

(Jake) Hmmph…you’re more worried about legal issues than our lives?

(Weston) N..not at all! Your lives are very important, as with all of our soldiers. But if you two were to get careless, your actions could result in our entire subdivision being shut down.

(DJ) I promise we’ll be careful, all right? Like Jake said, we’re prepared for this sort of thing. You can trust us to do this properly.

(Weston) Ok, I’ll take your word for it. Now, here’s a GPS receiver with a map of the general area. I’ve marked your search area as inside this red ring. *hands GPSr to DJ* There’s one for you too, Jake.

(Jake) Cool. I’ve always liked that sort of thing anyway. *takes GPSr*

(Weston) Alright, looks like we’re at the drop off point. *points out window* Look, there’s the forest just up there. *pulls vehicle over*

(Jake) Wow, this is impressive! You certainly have a beautiful place here. Too bad you can’t keep the terrorists out.

(DJ) *rolls eyes* Typical Jake…make jokes during a serious mission.

(Weston) Now, we’ll be waiting for your signal. If we don’t hear anything within five hours, we’ll send in a search team after you, understand?

(DJ) Got it. Thanks for everything, Weston.

(Weston) No, thank you for your willingness to work with us. Good luck! *starts driving away* Heh…that was almost too easy! I can’t believe they fell for our trap this easily…they should be quick work once they find then bunker. *makes a call on cell phone* Hello? Yeah, it’s me. The boys are headed toward you now. Yeah, your plan is working perfectly, Yashev. Pretending to be ATAWE was genius! Ok, I’ll inform Nicholas of the latest developments. Later. *hangs up*

(DJ) Well Jake, this is it. Make sure you’ve got all your camo gear on.

(Jake) Yeah, I’m all set. Let’s do this!

*DJ and Jake quietly walk into the forest*

Part 1

(Young DJ)
Well, here's the complete part one of my story. Hopefully the next few days of vacation will be productive and I'll be able to complete even more. But for now, enjoy!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Martial Academy, 4:30 AM; October 21st, 2002-

(Unknown character) *enters dormitory room* Hey DJ! Wake up…we need to get over to the mission office quick if we want to get assigned to that job in Ireland you were talking about! Come on!

(DJ) [just waking up] Ugh…just a minute Jake. *groggily sits up* I don’t think that mission would have been claimed this early. It’s only, what, *looks at clock* 4:30 in the morning? You’re the only cadet that would be up this time of the morning.

(Jake) Should I have not woken you up? You were the one talking about how great the Ireland mission sounded last night. I just wanted to make sure we got it. Consider this an early birthday present for you! Now come on, let’s go already!

(DJ) I don’t know how you do it Jake…I’m still dead tired. Tell you what: you go on over to the mission office, and I’ll be there in a few minutes. I’ve just got to get my things together first.

(Jake) Alright. *exits room and jogs toward the mission office*

[4:35 AM]

(Mission office aide) Yes, the mission in Ireland is still available.

(Jake) Great! I’d like to accept it, along with DJ.

(MO aide) I will need to see your ID cards to make sure you both have proper clearance for this assignment.

(Jake) Ok. *hands aide his ID* DJ should be here in a minute…

(MO aide) *takes card and enters it into computer* Alright, Jake, it looks like you are all set.

(DJ) *enters the mission office* I’m here. *walks over to counter and gives ID card to aide*

(MO aide) Good morning. *enters card into computer* Ok, you’re ready to go, DJ. I’ll print out two briefing reports for you.

(Jake) Yes! This should be a good one.

(MO aide) Just don’t forget that you’re still on assignment…this is a serious mission. Ah, your reports are ready. *hands reports to DJ*

(DJ) Yes ma’am, we won’t forget. *turns to Jake* So, when do you want to leave? It’s about a four-hour flight if we get a good speeder.

(Jake) It should take us about half an hour to get our gear ready and sign out a speeder. How about we leave at six o’clock? That way we’ll have a little extra time to do stuff before we leave.

(DJ) That sounds good to me. *Hands Jake one of the briefing reports* I’ll see you in an hour or so. *DJ and Jake leave the mission office*

[9:10 AM] -Somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean-

(Jake) I can’t believe you managed to get us one of the proto-experimental speeders! This thing’s going almost 900 miles an hour!

(DJ) It is pretty incredible, isn’t it? At this rate, we’ll be there half an hour early. That should actually give us time to pick up souvenirs or something for once. I can’t remember the last time we’ve been able to do that!

(Jake) I know! They really keep us on a busy schedule with these things, don’t they?

(DJ) They sure do. Hey, since we’re almost there, we ought to go over the mission details again just to make sure we don’t forget anything. First, we’re landing just outside Letterkenny, where we’ll meet our contact for the mission. We’ll be debriefed, and then transported to the basic area of the bunker we have to find. They haven’t found the actual location because of some sort of radar jamming, I guess. Not to mention it’s a heavily wooded area.

(Jake) Then, we scout out the area around the bunker, disable any security measures they have, and look for any alternate entrances. And then we infiltrate from the least guarded entrance.

(DJ) If we find that infiltration via their entrances doesn’t work, we may have to create a way in. The group we’re meeting has already planned for this and will be providing us certain tools to aid us in this possibility.

(Jake) I hope you mean explosives. Because that would be awesome!

(DJ) Haha, that it would. At any rate, once we get inside the bunker, we’re supposed to enter negotiations with the leader. We’ve been asked to keep the casualties to a minimum, in order to learn as much as we can from them. This is one of the key cells in the AETO, and the information we get from this op could be vital in saving thousands of lives.

(Jake) Yeah, I understand. Just try not to be too serious, DJ.

(DJ) Fair enough. I just want you to not be too reckless at the same time. Alright, time to initiate the landing sequence…we’re almost over land now. We’ll be on the ground in less than five minutes. You ready for this?

My apologies for taking so long to post anything. Life has been extremely hectic, which directly affects the time I have available to write. Also, there has been some difficulty with coordinating the writing effort with my co-authors (of the ISC's) in order to maintain continuity with the main story. But at any rate, here's the first mini-section of the story. This is merely a preview, but it's all I've had time for thus far. So, here it is:

Introduction

Hello to whoever may be reading this! This is the OFFICIAL sidestory for the character 'DJ' in the Ice Sword Chronicles (link for that is on the bottom of this post). I'll be going into how DJ, EDJ (or Iul), and Lui were all created, and the events taking place before the beginning of the ISC's. Consider this a prequel if you will. But at any rate...please enjoy! I'll be updating this as often as I get time, which hopefully won't be too infrequently.
